Opening Tip
After a pair of road contests, Saint Joseph's returns home to face George Washington on Wednesday, February 4. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is at 7:00 p.m. with the game to air on ESPN+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Long Distance Dedication (Part I)
Saint Joseph's connected on 14 three-pointers on Saturday afternoon at La Salle. It is tied for the most in a game this season for the Hawks, matching the total against Coppin State on December 9. Overall, since the beginning of conference play, SJU has shot much better from beyond the arc, connecting at a 34.3 percent rate. In non-conference competition, St. Joe's shot 27.4 percent. The Hawks rank fifth in the A-10 in three-pointers made in conference with 81.

Long Distance Dedication (Part II)
In particular, both Dasear Haskins and Derek Simpson have elevated their shooting from long distance since Atlantic 10 play began. Haskins is 14-for-30 beyond the arc in conference play, including a 6-for-7 performance at La Salle on Saturday. Simpson is 18-for-48 in the same span, a 37.5 percent clip. Prior to the beginning of A-10 play, Haskins and Simpson were connecting at 28.9 and 24.5 percent from three-point range, respectively.

Atop The Mountain
With three more blocks against La Salle on Saturday, Justice Ajogbor increased his margin as the active shot block leader in NCAA D1. His swats against the Ramblers give him 235 in his career. Justin Abson of Georgia enters the week with 230. Ajogbor's numbers have increased in the last five games with 20 blocks in the span. He has multiple blocks in all five contests.

Getting Noticed
Austin Williford and Dasear Haskins both were honored with weekly awards on Monday. Williford was the A-10 Rookie of the Week, averaging 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. It is the second time this season that the Charlottesville, Va. native has received the accolade. Haskins earned Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week honors for a week in which he averaged 16 points per contest and shot 11-for-17 from the field overall, including 8-for-11 from beyond the arc.

An Underrated Constant
Despite his Big 5 honor this week, the quality of Haskins' season has gone largely under the radar, but people should probably be paying more attention. In his last 14 games, he is averaging 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and notched his first three career double-doubles. He is also shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and 42.6 percent from three-point range to go along with a 1.6:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Dynamic Defense
Since January 11, St. Joe's has shown a marked improvement on the defensive end. In the last six games, opponents are scoring 67.3 points per game and shooting 38.6 percent from the floor. Rim protection has been a key during that time, as the Hawks have blocked 6.2 shots per game.

Taking The Show On The Road
A 3-6 mark in away contests doesn't exactly scream "road warriors," but the 2026 calendar portion of the schedule has been much better for the Hawks away from Hagan Arena than the 2025 part was. In its last four road games, SJU is 3-1, is scoring 72.8 points per game and is shooting 47.2 percent overall and 40.0 percent from three-point range. It has also held opponents to 66.5 points per game and 37.7 percent shooting. Contrasting that are the first five away tilts of the season, which saw the Hawks go 0-5 and give up 89.8 points per game, including 94+ on three occasions. Opponents also shot 50.5 percent in those contests.

Special Delivery
Derek Simpson turned in his second double-digit assist game of the season with 10 at Loyola Chicago. He is one of only 12 players for the Hawks with 10 or more assists in a game since the start of the 2004-05 season. The feat has been accomplished 21 times overall. He also became one of five players with multiple games of 10 or more dimes. In the last two decades Jordan Hall (2020-22) leads the way with five such contests.

Scouting Report
  • George Washington enters play 13-9 overall with a 4-5 mark in the A-10 and is coming off a 79-65 loss against Fordham on Saturday. The Revolutionaries were picked fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll and had four preseason All-Conference honorees.
  • Leading the way for GW on both ends of the floor is Rafael Castro, who averages 15.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while also topping the team with 41 steals and 31 blocks. Four other players are in double figures in scoring with Garrett Johnson netting 13.2 per game, Christian Jones scoring 10.9 and Trey Autry and Tre Dinkins III tallying 10.6 and 10.4, respectively.
  • The Revolutionaries can shoot and score, ranking second in the conference and 35th nationally at 84.4 points per game and are in the top-65 in NCAA D1 at 47.5 percent from the field. They also get contributions from up and down the lineup, sitting 23rd in the country at 32.5 bench points per game.
  • Everyone being involved has been important as the injury bug has hit GW this season with only three players appearing in all 22 games. The team's offensive numbers have also gone down in conference play as they averaged 87.6 points in non-league games and are netting 79.8 in A-10 contests while also shooting 29 percentage points lower in conference tilts. Holding on to the ball has been an issue at times with 12.5 turnovers a game, 11th in the Atlantic 10.
  • Chris Caputo is in his fourth season as the head coach at George Washington with a record of 65-55 in the nation's capital. Last season was a breakthrough of sorts as he guided the Revolutionaries to 21 wins and a berth in the College Basketball Crown.

All-Time Series
Wednesday is the 71st matchup between the long-time Atlantic 10 rivals with the Hawks holding a 40-30 series advantage. All but five of the games have come as conference opponents or in A-10 postseason contests. SJU has won four games in a row in the series. Prior to that, GW won four of five. The first game between the schools came on January 15, 1932, a 43-26 win for George Washington in Washington, D.C.

Last Time Against GW
Saint Joseph's opened up a close game in the second half and then had to fend off a late George Washington rally as the Hawks downed the Revolutionaries, 79-68 on February 19, 2025. Erik Reynolds II led St. Joe's with 19 points. Rasheer Fleming had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Derek Simpson reached double figures, scoring 11. Neither team led by more than seven in the first half. GW led most of the way before a 16-9 SJU run in the final six minutes of the frame gave the Hawks a 39-36 lead at the break. Saint Joseph's kept the momentum, outscoring the Revolutionaries 23-9 in the opening nine minutes of the second stanza. A 10-0 George Washington run brought the Revs back to 66-59, but the Hawks stabilized and were able to hold on for the win.

Next Up
St. Joe's heads to Fairfax, Va. for a crucial A-10 showdown on Saturday, February 7. Tipoff from EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with the game to air on ESPN+.
