The Saint Joseph's Men's Track Team opened their season at the 2004 Lafayette College Indoor Track and Field Meet. The Hawks boasted two first place finishes and claimed a number of other top places.
Freshman Bobby Staten finished 4th in both the 60 yard dash and 300 yard dash, in times of 6.59 and 33.71 respectively. The Hawks were also competitive in the field events. Sophomore Chris Alexander and Joe Witiw
finished 4th and 5th in the long jump, while sophomores Matt McClure, James Finore and junior Jeff Jengo had strong showings in the shot put.
The Hawks also fared well in the long sprints and middle distance events. Witiw and Alexander took fourth and fifth in the 440 yard dash, while junior Andrew Thomas finished third in the 500m ((1:05.88). In the mile, sophomore Chris Kessler took gold in a time of 4:41.06 with teammate, freshman Rich Ryan, not far behind finishing third.
The Men's Track Team have a competitive schedule this season and look foward to building on their successes from this meet. They will be traveling to the Bronx after the New Year for the Fordham Invitational on January 7, 2005.
