PHILADELPHIA (04/17/02) - Sophomore
Lindsey McNamara went a perfect six-of-six at the plate to lead Saint Joseph's to a doubleheader sweep of host Drexel on a sweltering Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks took the first game, 9-2, and the nightcap, 3-0, to improve to 21-9 on the season.
McNamara, who upped her season batting average nearly 50 points to .315, led the team's 17-hit attack in opener, ripping two doubles, driving in two runs, and scoring once. Senior
Teresa Andreani also came alive against the Dragons (5-28), going four-of-five with three runs scored.
Freshman
Megan Richardson, who is now the SJU hitting leader with a .365 average, went three-of-four on the game. Senior
Desiree McGhie also contributed two hits as did freshman
Alicia Cunic, who belted her fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot over the left center field fence in the top of the sixth.
Junior
Brandie Adams notched her ninth win of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Adams had limited the Dragons to just a lead-off single in the first inning before pinch hitter Winter Boehm crushed a ball over the left field fence for her first homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the sixth.
In the nightcap, sophomore
Dana Travis led the way, tossing a two-hitter for her fifth shutout of the season. Travis, who became just the fifth SJU pitcher to record 100 strikeouts for a season, fanned six batters to up her season total to 104, tying Christina Kowalski ('00) for fourth on the Hawk single season list. She is now 12-5 on the season with a 1.69 ERA.
McNamara drove in the game's first run in the fourth with her third double of the day, scoring senior
Kristin Nau, who led off the frame with a two-bagger. The Hawk second baseman then singled in Andreani in the sixth for her fourth RBI of the day to make it 2-0. A two-out bases loaded single to center by Richardson scored junior
Gale Treskot, who was pinch-running for Cunic (single) to provide the final margin.
The Hawks next play at St. Francis-NY on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
