EASTON, PA (03/20/01) - The St. Joseph's
softball team has returned to its winning form,
sweeping a doubleheader at Lafayette on
SJU, 4-8, utilized four-run innings in the fifth and
the seventh inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit in
the opener. Senior Heather Chapman started a
two-out rally with an RBI triple, scoring winning
pitcher
Brandie Adams (2-3), who had reached
via a fielders choice. Junior
Missy Rhoades doubled home Chapman.
Junior shortstop
Kristin Nau then belted a two-run homer to cap the
rally.
Chapman finished 2-3 on the game while Nau also had two hits and
three RBI.
In the nightcap, senior Kristin Doris started the game on the mound,
holding the Leopards hitless over four innings. Freshman
Dana Travis
(2-2) relieved Doris, striking out six while walking none over the final thre
innings to pick up the win in the 1-0 game. Lafayette's Elizabeth
Lucisano broke up the combined no-hit attempt with a lead-off single in
the bottom of the seventh.
The lone run was scored by Lyndsie O'Brien, who singled to lead off the
fifth. Adams sacrificed her to second and she advanced to third on an
error before Chapman drove her home with an RBI fielders choice.
SJU. which has won three of four since its return from a 1-7 Florida Trip,
now travels to Villanova for a Thursday doubleheader. The Hawks open
A-10 play at home against St. Bonaventure this weekend.
