SJU SWEEPS ALBANY TO MOVE TO 6-0

Ft. Myers, FL (03/13/02) - Saint Joseph's softball hurlers Brandie Adams and Dana Travis are certainly enjoying life in sunny Florida. The Hawk duo is off to an unprecedented start, holding opponents scoreless over their first three starts to lift SJU to a 6-0 record. The latest wins came at the expense of the University of Albany as Adams tossed a 3-0 shutout in the opening game of a doubleheader and Travis followed suit with a 4-0 shutout in the nightcap. The games were part of the Gene Cusic Classic. Adams, a junior, coming off a sophomore season filled with tough-luck, one-run losses, posted her third straight shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Seniors Missy Rhoades and Kristin Nau and freshman Cara Deldeo supplied the offense with two hits each. Rhoades had the lone extra base hit of the bunch, a triple. Travis, who posted the second most wins ever by a SJU freshman (13) last year, stuckout 10 batters while allowing three hits. It was her third win and second shutout of the season. Sophomore Lindsey McNamara provided the offense in the nightcap, belting a three-run homer. The Hawks continue play in the Gene Cusic Classic with games against Albany (11:00 a.m.) and St. Francis of Indiana (4:00 p.m.) on Thursday.
