HAWKS CRUISE IN ITALIAN OPENER, 106-54

BOSCOREALE, ITALY (08/17/02) - Holding a decided height advantage, the Saint Joseph's University women's basketball team looked into the post as the team kicked off its Italian tour with a 106-54 victory over the Boscoreale All-Stars (Campania). Junior Stephanie Graff led all scorers with 31 points, while fellow junior Irina Krasnoshiok added 26. Racing out to a 17-5 lead, the Crimson and Gray led by nineteen at the end of the first quarter, 27-11. In the second quarter the All-Stars shifted into a zone, but SJU responded by connecting on four three-pointers, including three straight, in the early stages of the period. Colleen McGahan knocked down a pair of triples, while Krasnoshiok and Amra Mehmedic added one apiece. McGahan added ten of her 20 points during the second stanza and the Hawks led at intermission, 57-31. The tone for the second half was set early with Graff dropping in the first four buckets of the period. She talled 18 of her 31 after the break and it was clear that the All-Stars had no players who could match up physically. Boscoreale ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, as SJU pulled away for the win. The Hawks outscored the All-Stars 25-5 in the final quarter to pull away for the decisive 106-54 win.
