BOXSCORE GAME 2
NEWARK, DE (3/4/04) - Senior
Dana Travis fired a two-hit shutout
in the opener and Delaware pitcher Jenn Joseph fired a four-hit shutout
in the nightcap as the Hawks and Fightin' Blue Hens split a softball
doubleheader on Wednesday. Saint Joseph's won the opener, 2-0, while
Delaware won the second game, 1-0.
Travis allowed just two hits and struck out seven to make
junior
Alicia Cunic's first inning home run stand up. After a
Lindsey McNamara walk, Cunic smacked a two-out,
two-run home run just inside the left field foul pole for the game's
only runs.
In the nightcap, Delaware's Joseph also made a first-inning run stand up
as she allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out five. Randi
Isaacs singled to score Laura Streets, who had ripped a two-out double to left,
for that game's only run.
Saint Joseph's threatened in the top of the seventh when junior
Robin Berry got
on by a two-base error to open the inning. She was bunted over to third by freshman Cathy Ricther
for the first out of the inning. However, a fly ball to right off the bat
of sophomore pinch-hitter
Jill Clementi was not deep enough to score Berry and
sophomore
Katie McCann grounded back to the pitcher to end the game.
Freshman
Lauren Hughes took the loss in her first collegiate start, despite allowing just four hits in six innings pitched.
Junior
Cara Deldeo, sophomore
Megan Richardson, junior Alicia Cunic, and freshman
Rachel Pawlikowski all had two hits in the double-header.
SJU is now 1-1 on the season, while Delaware improves to 7-6.
