RICHMOND, VA (05/04/03) -- Paced by gold medals by seniors Jerry Puryear and Brian Rosetti, along with a first-place 4x400 relay, the Saint Joseph's men's track team placed fourth at the Atlantic 10 Championships at Richmond. With the victories, all three automatically qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships.
Puryear captured gold in the 400m hurdles with a season best time of 51.90, while Rosetti won the 1500m (3:51.94). The 4x400 did not break its recently set school record, but a time of 3:13.87 was still good enough to win the conference title by three seconds.
Senior Tim Fisher finished second in the 5000m with a season best time of 14:59.96, while sophomore Doug Rick placed third in the 400m (48.58). Sophomore Eric Chekemian was right on his heels in the event, placing fourth with a time of 49.41. Freshman Andrew Thomas earned fourth in the 800m (1:55.91) and junior Nick Carras placed fifth in the 200m (21.71), missing the IC4A standard by just 0.01.
Saint Joseph's returns to the oval this weekend at the Princeton Invitational.
