PHILADELPHIA (4/26/04) - Freshman Lauren Hughes has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced today. The hurler did not allow an earned run in nine innings this week, including a complete game, eight-strikeout performance in a 5-1 win over conference rival Dayton on Friday. Hughes posted a 1-0 record on the week with a 0.00 ERA and struck out nine batters against a single walk in nine innings in the circle. She improved to 4-8 on the season with the victory. The Holland, Pa. native was also 2-for-5 (.400) at the plate for the week. Since returning from a brutal Spring Break schedule that included six games against Top 25 teams, Hughes is 3-4 with a 1.30 ERA. Saint Joseph's is 15-21 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
