HAWKS OPEN UP OUTDOOR SEASON AT PENN INVITATIONAL

PHILADELPHIA- Behind six first-place finishes, the St. Joseph's men's track team opened up their outdoor season with a strong showing at the Penn Invitational. SJU dominated the sprints with James Scott, Jerry Puryear, and Geoff Valentine registering first place finishes in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, and 400 meter dash, respectively. Joe Hartman claimed third in the 400 hurdles while Andy Craycraft took home bronze in the 400 meter dash. Karl Savage and Ben Koch led the long distance runners with first-place finishes in the 3000 meter run and the 3000 meter steeplechase, respectively. Tim Fisher took home silver in the steeplechase while Bill Hoffman placed third in the 3000. In addition to his first place finish, Puryear also captured third place in the long jump with a leap of 6.76 meters. The 4x100 relay team also claimed first prize with a time of 42.6 seconds.
