BETHLEHEM, PA (4/28/04) - SJU bounced back from Tuesday's losses to Princeton to earn a split at Patriot League regular season champ Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks took game one handily, winning 9-1 in five innings. But St. Joe's came back, plating six in the second game to win by a final of 6-4. Junior
Robin Berry had four hits on the day to lead the Crimson and Gray.
Lehigh (37-15-2) scored all of their runs in two big innings, plating four runs in the second and five runs in fourth. In the second, Mendy Martin drove in two runs with an RBI-double, then scored herself on an RBI triple by Shana Treon. Treon would also score on a single by Erin Hengemuhle.
In the fourth the Mountain Hawks got on track again, with the big hit a bases loaded double by Lauren Haney that cleared the bases.
Juniors
Alicia Cunic and Robin Berry each singled and doubled for SJU (16-24). Junior
Cara Deldeo suffered the loss, allowing nine runs (four earned) in four innings.
In the second game, Saint Joseph's turned the tables, getting four early runs against Lehigh starter Heather Hamasaki. Lehigh's defense committed two errors in the frame, allowing all four runs to come in unearned. Sophomore
Jill Clementi had a two-run single in the frame.
St. Joe's added two more runs in the fourth inning as sophomore
Katie McCann singled home Berry and advanced to second on the throw. McCann proceeded to steal third and score on an overthrow.
Senior
Dana Travis earned the win to improve to 11-9 on the season. The co-captain scattered 10 hits and allowed three earned runs in the complete game victory. McCann went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Berry and senior
Lindsey McNamara also added two hits.
Saint Joseph's takes on La Salle in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
