BETHLEHEM, PA (04/10/02) - Saint Joseph's snapped a six-game losing streak in softball on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader split at Lehigh. Sophomore
Dana Travis picked up her 10th win of the season against five losses in hurling SJU to a 4-1 win inthe first game. The Mountain Hawks won the nightcap, 4-3.
In the opener, freshman
Cara Deldeo went two-for-four and scored the game's first run in the first inning, and Travis limited Lehigh to four hits and just one seventh inning run while striking out five. Senior
Kristin Nau added an RBI triple and scored a run in a two-run seventh while freshmen
Alicia Cunic and senior DesireeMcGhie each drove in a run in the Hawks' eight-hit attack.
In the nightcap, Deldeo pitched well in just her second start, allowing just four hits and four runs, two earned. Cunic provided the Hawk offense, driving in SJU's first run in the sixth on an RBI single scoring Nau who had singled to start the inning. The Hawk newcomer then ripped a triple to center in the seventh to drive home Nau and Deldeo.
It was not enough to overcome the Mountain Hawks (19-11), who had built up a 4-0 lead over five innings.
The Hawks, now 17-8, will next travel to Olean, NY to takje on St, Bonaventure for a weekend Atlantic 10 series (4/13-14). The Bonnies are in fifth place in the conference with a 4-5 league mark while SJU stands at sixth (3-6).
