2002 ITALIAN TOUR HAWK DAILY DIARY - DAYS 3 AND 4

ROME (08/15/02) - After breakfast in the morning at the hotel, the team is taken on a tour of ancient Rome, including the Circus Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Titus, the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine. The group then has free time before convening in the late afternoon for a trip to coastal town of Santa Marinella for practice from 4:00PM-6:00PM. After practice, the team returned to Rome and had the rest of the evening free. Thursday, the group has the entire day free for its own activities. The team runs in the morning at 9:00 AM, but then many in the group head by taxi to the catacombs. The rest of the afternoon is open for either group or individual activities. **************************************************************** The third day we toured the Colosseum. The massive amphitheatre was amazing! As we entered it, I was in awe, over its size and architecture. As we walked into the main arena our tour guide Cindy explained that the games in the Colosseum consisted of gladitorial combats, naval battles and fights between both gladiators and wild beasts. So far our first three days have been great and we are looking forward to the rest of the trip. -- Colleen McGahan
