MORAN NAMED MVP AT SJU AWARDS BANQUET

PHILADELPHIA (04/24/02) - Saint Joseph's University women's basketball standout Susan Moran (Tullamore, Ireland/Sacred Heart) has been named the team's Most Valuable Player at SJU's 26th annual awards banquet held at the Holiday Inn - City Line. Moran received one of nine awards handed out by the Hawks, who finished the year with a 24-8 record, won the Atlantic 10 Conference's Eastern Division and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. A senior forward, Moran was named both the Big Five and Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, as well as a third team Academic All-American. In addition, the honorable mention All-American (AP/WBCA) was a finalist for the inaugural Senior CLASS (National Senior Player of the Year) Award. The all-time leading scorer in SJU basketball history (2,340 points), she is the only player in school history to lead her team in both scoring and rebounding in four straight seasons. This season she ranked among the national leaders and led both the A-10 and Philadelphia Big Five circuits by averaging 23.3 points per game. A starter in all 122 games of her career, earlier this season she set an Atlantic 10 record by being named the Conference's player of the week eight times. She was also named to the A-10 All-Conference first team for the second straight season and the league's all-Academic squad for the third year in a row. Among the others honored were sophomore Kristin Cuff (Roosevelt Hunter Community Service Award), sophomore Esther Hoffer (Chris DiJulia Inspirational Award), sophomore Stephanie Graff (Emory Ross Academic Excellence Award and Most Improved Player Award), senior Colleen McGahan (Loyalty and Leadership Award) senior Jane Meade (Unsung Hero Award), senior Amy Snell (Best Defensive Player) and Moran (Best Offensive Player).
