HAWKS COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP OF FORDHAM, 4-3

NEW YORK (4/22/01) - Freshman Dana Travis picked up her 10th win of the season and junior Teresa Andreani drilled an RBI double to right center in the top of the seventh to lead the St. Joseph's Hawks to a 4-3 win over Fordham and a series sweep of the Rams SJU, now 17-19-1,8-7 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, moves into a three-way tie with Dayton and Rhode Island for third place in the conference standings. The Hawks travel to Dayton next weekend and host La Salle in their final A-10 series on May 5-6. The top four teams advance to the A-10 Tournament, held at Dayton. The Hawks struggled against Fordham starter Renee Little in the early going, before breaking through for three runs in the fourth. Third baseman Brandie Adams led things off with a double to left. Megan Brown sacrificed her to third. Following a Gale Treskot walk, Travis stroked an RBI single up the middle, scoring Adams. Little then tossed two wild pitches, one scoring Treskot, the other advancing Travis to third before being relieved by Jamie Giguere with a 3-1 count on Heather Chapman. The Hawk centerfielder greeted the new Ram pitcher with a RBI double over the left center fence on her first pitch. Fordham (15-33, 5-10) wasted little time tying the score, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Rams maximized four singles in the frame to score the runs before Travis settled down to end the inning. In the seventh, shortstop Kristin Nau, who made two stellar defensive plays in the contest, singled to start the inning. Andreani then doubled her home with what would prove to be the winning run. Travis, who upped her record to 10-7, is the third SJU freshman to compiled 10 wins. Sophomore Brandie Adams also accomplished the feat with 11 wins last year as did Susan Dugan in 1998. Chapman had two hits in the game to raise her average to a team high .315. Andreani (.312) and McNamara (.304) are also hitting above the .300 mark.
