BLACKSBURG, VA - Senior
James Scott set the pace for the Saint Joseph's men's track team by placing third in the 200-meter dash to lead the Hawks this past weekend at the Last Chance meet held at Virginia Tech University. Scott competed in a 27-runner field and finished in a time of 21.49 seconds. Scott beat competitors from Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina State and James Madison.
Scott also competed in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02, while teammates
Kile Garguilo (22.57) and
Marc Maccario (22.59) placed 21st and 22nd respectively in the 200.
Senior
Bill Hoffman also fared well for the Hawks by placing third in the 5000-meter race in a time of 15:01.63. In the 3000,
Ben Koch and
Tim Fisher finished 20th and 24th, while
Jerry Puryear (1:55.40) and
Bill James (1:55.73) fared well in the 800.
Other performers for the Hawks included newcomer
Brad Schmidt, who placed 20th in the mile run with a time of 4:24.77 and
Nick Carras who finished the 400 in 49.92 seconds.
SJU next compete's on Saturday, March 2, at the ICAAAA Championships held in Boston, Mass.
