EAST NORRITON, PA (04/07/02) - UMass played like an all-conference team on Sunday afternoon against Saint Joseph's pounding out 11 hits and 11 runs in a five-inning 11-0 win. The Minutewomen should play like an all-conference team too, since six of their starters were named to the all-Atlantic 10 Conference team in 2001. UMass also has won 33 straight games against A-10 teams, and is now 26-10 overall and 9-0 in league play. SJU, which has now lost six in a row, drops to 16-7 and 3-6.
UMass took advantage of SJU sophomore hurler
Dana Travis' control problems in the first inning, scoring three runs on just one hit. Travis, who fell to 9-4 on the year, lasted only 1 1/3 innings after pitching a complete game and striking out eight Minutewomen on Saturday.
Junior
Brandie Adams came into the game, and was equally ineffective. Bothered by tendonitis in her throwing shoulder, Adams allowed seven earned runs, all in the third inning, as UMass broke the game wide open.
Senior shortstop
Kristin Nau doubled for the lone extra base hit for SJU, one of three totals hits allowed by junior pitcher Kaila Holtz (11-5).
Noteworthy on the day was senior third baseman Scooter Wheeler becoming UMass' all-time RBI leader. She passed Kim Guthridge (1995-98) in the second inning with an RBI double, her 132nd run batted in.
The Hawks next travel to Lehigh for a Wednesday doubleheader (3:00 PM).
