EASTON, PA (04/21/03) -- Saint Joseph's had its final tune-up before this week's Penn Relays at Saturday's Leopard Invitational at Lafayette College. Senior Jerry Puryear improved his IC4A qualifying time in the 400m hurdles (52.10) to win the event by over a second to lead the Hawks. St. Joe's also met IC4A standards in the 4x400 relay, which it won handily. Junior Rich Cullin was a winner in the 5000m with a time of 15:19.70 as was sophomore Collin Martin in the 3000m steeplechase (9:27.70). SJU also had a strong showing in the 400m, as junior Nick Carras placed second with a time of 48.54. Sophomore Doug Rick finished fourth (48.84) and freshman Andrew Thomas placed fifth (49.01) in the event. Freshman Rich Anderson placed fifth in the 1500m (3:58.60), while classmate Joe Mohn finished second in the 3000m with a time of 8:51.80. SJU competes at the prestigious Penn Relays later this week.
