SJU SOFTBALL SIGNS COGNIGNI TO NLI

PHILADELPHIA (2/10/04) - Pennsbury's Lauren Cognigni, one of the state's top pitching prospects, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Saint Joseph's University, head coach Moo Moyer announced. The flamethrower posted a 22-3 record with 200 strikeouts and 10 shutouts in her junior season and was named Suburban One League First Team by the Bucks County Courier Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer and All-Area by the Trenton Times. Cognigni was a member of the 2001 PIAA State Champions at Pennsbury High and the 2002 ASA State Champions as a member of the Pennsbury Gems. Pennsbury finished its season with a 23-3 record in 2003. Saint Joseph's is coming off a 25-15 season in which the Hawks finished third in the Atlantic 10 Conference behind Massachusetts and Temple. SJU has compiled seven 30+ win seasons in the past nine years.
