PHILADELPHIA (01/07/02) - Saint Joseph's University has SOLD OUT its Third Annual "Fieldtrip to the Fieldhouse," on Friday, January 11. Co-sponsored by Newspapers in Education - Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News, the event brings over 3,000 elementary school children from throughout the Delaware Valley to SJU's historic Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
Held in conjunction with the Hawk women's basketball game that day against Duquesne at Noon, the children in attendance are treated to quite possibly the most unique fieldtrip experience of their lives. The day features a women's college basketball matinee, cheerleaders, giveaways, a pregame clinic and a variety of speakers who address the value of integrating "Academics and Athletics."
The festivities will kickoff at 10:00 a.m. with WPVI-TV 6ABC personality Cecily Tynan addressing the crowd about the day's theme. Tynan will be followed by a basketball skills session hosted by the Hawk coaching staff. Also speaking will be Saint Joseph's University head women's basketball coach Cindy Anderson-Griffin.
The highlight of the day will tip off at Noon when the Hawk women take on Duquesne in an exciting Atlantic 10 basketball matchup. The game, which has been sold out since Christmas, stands as the just the fourth advance sellout of a regular season women's basketball game in Hawk History.
