Ft. Myers, FL (03/14/02) - New Saint Joseph's head coach never thought it would be this easy. For the fourth straight day he watched his charges take two games at the Gene Cusic Classic. This time his Hawks dispatched of Albany, 7-4, and St. Francis-Ind., 12-1, to move to 8-0 on the season, the best start in SJU history..
In the first game, SJU scored five runs in the first inning courtesy of two-run singles by freshmen
Robin Berry and
Alicia Cunic, and junior
Brandie Adams coasted from there to notch her fourth win of the season. Adams was finally touched for her first run of the season in the third inning, and gave up four on the day.
Sophomore
Lindsey McNamara picked up from where she left off, going 4-of-4 at the plate with a homerun. Freshman
Cara Deldeo and senior
Teresa Andreani each added two hits in the game.
In the St. Francis romp, McNamara homered for the third straight game, and drove in five runs, to lead the offensive explosion. She was 2-of-2 at the plate as was senior
Megan Brown (2 runs, RBI). Deldeo again rapped two hits and knocked in two. Cunic had a two-run double and both Sandra Carroll and
Gale Treskot scored two runs.
Sophomore
Dana Travis moved to 4-0 on the year, allowing her first run of the season on three hits while striking out eight (0 walks).
The Hawks have compiled a .328 team batting average and a 0.84 ERA over their eight games in Florida.
SJU will conclude its play in the the Gene Cusic Classic with games against the same two teams tomorrow.
