DAYTON, OH (5/5/01) - The St. Joseph's men's
track team had an outstanding showing at the
Verizon Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field
Championships, finishing third overall with 170
points.
Junior
James Scott was named the Most
Outstanding Track Performer after claiming gold
in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Junior
Marc Maccario placed second in the 400 and
sixth in the 200 while freshman
Nick Carras claimed fourth in the 100.
Junior
Ben Koch won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a new meet
record of 9:12.1 while sophomore
Tim Fisher placed fifth in the event
(9:31.6). Koch also placed second in the 5,000 meters with a time
15:05.25.
Senior
Karl Savage also set a new meet record in the 1,500 with a time
of 3:51.62 while also placing first in the 5,000 with a time of 15:02.03.
Sophomore
Jerry Puryear placed second in the long jump with a leap of
21'6.25" and third in the 400 meter hurdles (53.13) while
Brian Rosetti
claimed silver in the 1,500 (3:52.69).
Junior
Bill Hoffman (32:21.48), sophomore
Dan Mays (32:29.14) and
senior Joe Lanci (32:32.37) placed second, third and fourth, respectively
at 10,000 meters.
Other scorers for the Hawks include
Andy Craycraft and
Jim Smith, who
placed third and fourth in the 800, respectively and
Geoff Valentine, who
placed fourth in the 400. The 4x400 and 4x800 relay squads both
claimed gold to round out SJU's top performances.
