Teresa Andreani had a big afternoon, going 6-8 with four runs and four RBI in the twinbill, while freshman
Alicia Cunic's two homeruns in the nightcap helped to spoil the Mount's home opener.
St. Joe's jumped out to a 4-0 margin after three innings in the first game and seemed to be cruising along when Andreani doubled home
Kristin Nau giving the visitors a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Mount struck for four runs on five hits in the last half inning and had the tying run on base with one out, but Hawk hurler
Brandie Adams worked out of the jam for the victory.
In the nightcap, poor defense by the Mount helped SJU plate six runs in the second inning, all unearned. Cunic hit her first homer of the game in the inning, a three-run shot to left, to give the Hawks a commanding 6-0 lead. She hit her second roundtripper of the game in the fourth, a two-run shot, as the front end of back-to-back shots.
Lindsey McNamara followed Cunic with a solo shot of her own to build the lead to 10-0.
The Mount chipped away scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Hawks tacked on one more score in the top of the sixth inning and held the Mount scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to force the game to be called an inning early as a result of the eight-run rule.
Dana Travis picked up the victory for St. Joe's as she went the entire game giving up three earned runs on seven hits and striking out seven.
The Hawksopen their conference season at Drexel against Fordham on Saturday (noon).
