WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (3/25/04)- Monmouth University freshmen Danielle Ellement, Dawn Gilchrist and Heather Gordon led MU to a doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's University in collegiate softball action at Hawk Diamond on Thursday afternoon. Monmouth posted a come-from behind, 6-5, win in the opener and a darkness shortened, 2-0, victory.
Saint Joseph's (6-14) pounced on Monmouth early in the first game. After an error by Monmouth's shortstop to lead off the second frame, SJU junior Lynn Ravert laid down a bunt single. With one out, a wild pitch allowed runners to move to second and third. Junior

The Crimson and Gray amassed five runs on eight hits off MU starter Lori Padgett in the first three innings, but Ellement came in to close the door for Monmouth. She weaved 4.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball, fanning three batters and issuing walk.
Monmouth (4-8) made its first rally of the opening game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dana Pasini drew a one-out walk. A throwing error by SJU on a ground ball by Gilchrist put runners at the corners. The Hawks pulled off a double steal, allowing Pasini to score and Gilchrist eventually moved to third on the play. Gordon followed with an RBI triple over the centerfielder's head to plate Gilchrist and cut Saint Joseph's lead to 5-2
The Blue and White completed the comeback in the sixth frame. Kristin Wilson led off the inning with a double into the right centerfield gap. With one out, Gilchrist singled and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Gordon delivered a two-run single, to push Wilson and Gilchrist across and close the lead to 5-4. Gordon moved to second on the throw to the plate, allowing Amanda Smith to drive her home with a single to right field, knotting the score at 5-5. A throwing error by SJU's catcher allowed Smith to move to third and she scored when SJU misplayed a ground ball by Ashley Dellens.
Senior
Dana Travis (4-5) was saddled with the loss for Saint Joseph's. She allowed six runs, four earned on six hits and one walk, while striking out five over 6.0 innings.
Deldeo went 3-of-4 with one run scored and one RBI or SJU. Clementi was 1-of-3 with one double, one run and two RBI.
In the second game, Monmouth did all its damage in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Gilchrist singled up the middle and scored on a moon shot by Gordon over the centerfield wall.
Ellement earned the victory in game two as she went the distance. She allowed just two hits and one walk over 5.0 innings of shutout ball.
