PHILADELPHIA, PA (3/24/02) - The Saint Joseph's men's track team opened up their outdoor season with a strong showing at the Penn Invitational.
SJU dominated almost every event and freshman newcomer
Eric Chekemian led the way winning the 400 meter. Teammates
Andy Craycraft, Mike McCabe and
Doug Rick rounded out the 400-meter event's top six. Senior
Marc Maccario finished second in the 200 meter, while
Jim Smith and
Bill Hoffman placed 3rd and 5th respectively in the 1500.
Ben Koch and
Brian Rosetti led the long distance runners with second and fifth place finishes in the 5000 meter run respectively.
In addition to his first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, junior
Jerry Puryear also captured a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters.
The 4x400 relay team also claimed first prize with a time of 3:17.5 besting 21 other schools including Bucknell, West Chester and invitational host Pennsylvania.
Next up for the Hawk men is the Lafayette Four-Way Invitational on Saturday, March 30.
