UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (1/17/04) - Paced by strong performances in the relays the Saint Joseph's men's track team placed 12th in the 16 team field at the Penn State Inivational. The 4x800 relay placed fifth, while the DMR and 4x400 each placed sixth, respectively. Sophomore Andrew Thomas turned in SJU's top individual performance, placeing 4th in the 500 M (1:03.04). Other top individual efforts came in the 400m, where Doug Rick (49.05) and Nick Carras (49.40) placed fifth and sixth. Brad Schmidt also placed 6th (2:29.11) in the 1000m. Penn State's team score of 102 points was enough to edge out second place Cornell (94.50). Rutgers was third with a score of 81 points and Georgetown (69) and LaSalle (59) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in a 16-team competition field.
