ADAMS, ANDREANI, NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA SOFTBALL TEAM

PHILADELPHIA (06/06/02) - Saint Joseph's University senior catcher Teresa Andreani and junior pitcher Brandie Adams have been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Softball Team. Andreani, a Third Team Verizon Academic All-American in 2001, earned second team honors this year while Adams earned a spot on the third team. The Verzion Academic All-America Team is selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Andreani, a native of Matawan, NJ (Toms River North), capped her stellar career at Saint Joseph's by being named Atlantic 10 All-Conference for the third straight season. In her final season at SJU, Andreani tied for the team lead in hits with 50 while placing second in doubles (12) and third in batting (.316). The lone SJU player on the 2002 A-10 all-conference team, the Hawk captain helped lead her team to a 32-17 overall record and a third trip to the A-10 Tournament in her four seasons at the school. A two-time team MVP, Andreani compiled 193 hits for her four-year career, ranking third on the school's all-time hit list. Her 45 career doubles also place her third on the SJU list in that category while her 106 runs scored and 93 RBI rank fourth and fifth, respectively. The 2001 Atlantic 10 Student Athlete of the Year for Softball, Andreani earned her bachelor's degree in Chemistry, compiling a 3.79 cumulative grade point average.She will pursue her master's degree at Rutgers University. Adams, a native of Newtown, PA (Council Rock), posted a 12-6 record on the season with a 1.94 ERA (fourth best in the Atlantic 10). She also tossed four shutouts, including a career-high eight-strikeout performance in a 2-0 season-opening win over Bentley. The junior hurler suffered from impingement syndrome during the season, missing three starts. For her career, she has compiled 29 wins, ranking sixth on the all-time SJU win list. Her 197 strikeouts place her sixth on that all-time school list. A two-time SJU Academic Award winner, the elementary education major owns the highest cumulative grade point average, 3.96, on the Hawk softball team.
