PHILADELPHIA (11/11/01) - Junior
Colleen McGahan shot 9-9 from three-point range and 10-10 from the floor overall to lead the Saint Joseph's University women's basketball team to a 120-67 victory over the NWBL All-Stars. The victory concluded the regular season for SJU, which is picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Conference's Eastern Division.
After a slow start, the Hawks took command of the game with a 20-4 run midway through the first half. McGahan (12 points) was one of three Hawks in double figures for SJU at intermission. She was joined by Senior
Susan Moran (17 points) and sophomore
Amra Mehmedic (12 points). The Crimson and Gray's biggest lead of the first half was 31 points, 59-28, with 2:03 to play.
In the second half the lead quickly ballooned up to 40 points, as SJU put it in cruise control. Emptying the bench, all but one Hawk found her way onto the scoring ledger. McGahan finished the contest with 29 points, including 9-9 from three-point range. The nine threes would have tied a school-record. Joining McGahan in double digits were Moran (20 points), Mehmedic (18 points), as well as sophomores
Stephanie Graff (17 points) and
Irina Krasnoshiok (13 points). Seniors
Jane Meade (7 points, 8 assists) and
Amy Snell (8 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) along with sophomore Elizabeth "Hootie" Mohan (5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) also contributed in the victory.
SJU opens the regular season on Friday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. against Southern California at the Fieldhouse. The team also faces off against nationally-ranked Rutgers on Sunday, November 18, that game will be televised locally on CN-8.
