PHILADELPHIA (1/31/04) - The Saint Joseph's men's track team continued to flash its wares over the weekend as a split squad competed at both the highly-competetive Penn State National and Widener Invitationals.
At PSU, the usual Hawk suspects were up to their old tricks holding their own against one of the most demanding fields of the indoor season. Sophomores Andre Thomas and
Andre Laboy turned in the Hawks top individual finishes. Thomas placed third in the 600m in a time of 1:18.64, while Laboy was fifth in the 5000m covering the distance in 14:42.66 in his first event of the new year.
At 200m
Nick Carras (22.13) and
Kile Garguilo (22.88) turned in two of the A-10s best times this year. Garguilo (50.74) and
Doug Rick (48.79) then did the same at 400m.
In the middle distance,
Chris Koneski (1:05.31) and
Jerry Puryear (1:05.52) nipped at each others heels in the 500m, placing seventh and eighth.
Brad Schmidt ran 1:55.76 at 800m and
Mike DiDio finished the mile in 4:16.76.
in the distance events
Collin Martin ran 8:40.02 at 3000m and
Dave Masse ran 15:14.26 at 5000m.
The SJU relays also excelled with the 4x400 placing fourth in a time of 3:15.03, 4x800 covering the oval in 7:50.76 and the distance medley finishing in 10:03.38.
Top finishes at Widener were turned in by
Chris Kessler, who placed second in the 800m in a time of 2:03.31, and the 4x400 that finished second (3:36.15)
