TEMPLE COMPLETES SWEEP OF SJU IN SOFTBALL

PHILADELPHIA (03/27/03) - It may have taken two days but Temple completed its sweep of its doubleheader with Saint Joseph's, besting the Hawks, 6-3, on Thursday afternoon at Erny Field. The game had been suspended due to rain on Wednesday with SJU leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Temple tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as starting pitcher Liz Naughton (6-3)singled home Chrissy Harris who doubled to lead off the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Owls plated three more runs off SJU starter Brandie Adams (3-1) with Harris providing the big hit, a two-run single with two out. Harris hit came off junior Dana Travis, who relieved Adams with two on and one run already in. The Hawks, which scored all three runs the day before on a three-run double by freshman Jill Clementi, mustered three hits over the final four innings off Naughton. The only SJU threat came in the sixth as Clementi and Robin Berry singled to lead off the inning. Naughton, however, got Gale Treskot to pop up on a sacrifice attempt and Adams and Cara Deldeo grounded out to end the inning. SJU, 8-7, 0-2 in A-10 play, hosts George Washington on Friday at East Norriton Field (2:30 p.m.). The Owls up their record to 12-14, 2-0.
