OLEAN, NY (04/15/02) - Sophomore
Dana Travis pitched a six-hitter to lead Saint Joseph's to a 6-1 win in the completion of a suspended game against St. Bonaventure as the Hawks split a doubleheader with the Bonnies on Monday afternoon. The Bonnies plated an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Hawks, 1-0, in the nightcap.
Freshmen
Alicia Cunic and
Megan Richardson, and senior
Desiree McGhie all contributed two hits in the Hawks' win. Cunic and sophomore
Lindsey McNamara had SJU's lone extra base hits, ripping a double and triple, respectively, as the Hawks used an eight-hit attack to win the opener easily.
Travis, who notched her team-leading 11th win, struckout 10 in the contest to keep the Bonnies at bay. The lone SBU run came off a a sixth inning homer by shortstop Tricia Hildebrand.
In the second game, junior
Brandie Adams pitched a gem, holding the Bonnies scoreless through six innings. But following a leadoff single in the seventh by Victoria Magatti, and a popout by Bernice St. Clair, Adams committed a costly throwing error making it first and second with one out. Firstbaseman Kim Dodson reached on a fielders choice to load the bases and Hildrebrand, the Bonnies' top hitter, delivered with a game-winning single.
SJU compiled five hits in the game, with Cunic contributing the lone extra base hit, a one-out double in the fourth. The Hawks loaded the bases with one out in that inning, but Emily Hart pitched out of the jam for SBU.
The Hawks, 19-9, 5-7 in Atlantic 10 action, next play at Drexel on Wednesday (2:30 p.m.). SJU's doubleheader at St. Francis-NY has been rescheduled from Tuesday, April 16 until Thursday, April 18.
