NEW YORK, NY (01/10/03) - The 4x400 relay team set a new school record and sophomore Doug Rick captured gold in the 400 meters as the Hawks had a strong showing at the Fordham Invitational in the Big Apple.The Hawks placed third out of 12 teams.
The 4x400 team comprised of junior Nick Carras, freshman Andrew Thomas, senior Jerry Puryear, and Rick finished the relay in 3:13.81, breaking the old mark of 3:16.62 set last season. Rick qualified for the IC4As in winning the 400m with a time of 48.79. Puryear was right on his heels in the race as he finished second with a time of 49.33.
Other top performances included Thomas' IC4A-qualifying second place showing in the 500 meters (1:03.93). Senior Brian Rosetti also reached IC4A qualifying standards with a second place finish in the 1,000 meters (2:27.50).
Freshman Andre Laboy (8:35.44) and senior Tim Fisher (8:38.08) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000 meters. Carras placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22:58.
