Missy Rhoades set a school-record with seven RBI in a game to lead the Saint Joseph's softball team to a 4-0 start at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Under the stewardship of first year coach Moo Moyer, the Hawks took the field against Bentley College on Monday afternoon and gave their new coach his first collegiate victory, a 2-0 shuout. Adams, the staff ace, tossed a three-hitter, striking out eight while walking none. Freshman
Megan Richardson went 2-of-2 at the plate in her first collegiate game, and stole three bases. Senior
Desiree McGhie tripled in her first game back made a triumphant return after sitting out last season with a knee injury.
Travis then went out and matched Adams pitch-for-pitch in the team's second game of the day, tossing a three-hitter and striking out eight (two walks) in leading SJU to a 1-0 win over North Dakota. The Hawks scored the only run in the game in the top of the seventh. McGhie led off with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Gale Treskot. Richardson then singled her home for the game-winning run.
SJU made it three straight shutouts with a 9-0 win over the University of Indianapolis on Tuesday. Adams allowed just two hits while striking out five in the five-inning contest. Richardson again was big offensively, going 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Senior
Teresa Andreani also went 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI while senior
Kristin Nau knocked in two runs.
The Hawks exploded against Bentley in the second game on Tuesday, rapping 18 hits in a 22-2 win. Freshman
Cara Deldeo went 4-of-4 with four runs scored and a double. She also relieved Travis (0 hits, 5 Ks) on the mound after three innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out three. Rhoades, however, led the explosion with a school-record seven RBI, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the fourth inning. Nau had three hits while McGhie, freshman

Lindsey McNamara all scored three runs. Freshman
Robin Berry also had a three-run triple.
The Hawks continue play in the Gene Cusic Classic with a doubleheader against Albany on March 13.
