SOFTBALL WINS OPENER, 8-2, OVER FAIRFIELD

KISSIMMEE, FL (03/09/03) - Senior Dana Travis picked up right where she left off last year, tossing a four-hitter to lead Saint Joseph's to a 8-2 win over Fairfield in the team's season opener at the Rebel Games. Travis, who set SJU season records in strikeouts (179) and shutouts (9) last year while tying the mark for wins (19), struckout five Stags in the game while walking just one. Sophomore Megan Richardson, the teams leading hitter last year (.339), also looked to be in mid-season form, rapping three hits and driving in three runs. Senior Gale Treskot, sophomores Robin Berry and Alicia Cunic and freshman Jill Clementi all recorded two hits in the game. In the second game of the day, senior Brandi Adams looked fully recovered from off-season surgery on her shoulder, pitching four shutout innings against Robert Morris before the game was called due to rain. It was scoreless at the time. The Hawks play Youngstown State and Tennessee-Martin on Monday at the Rebel Games.
