KANSAS CITY, MO (2/06/02) - Saint Joseph's University's
Susan Moran has been named one of ten finalists for the inaugural Senior CLASS Award. The Senior CLASS Award - an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School - will be presented annually by the Kansas City Club to the outstanding senior NCAA Division I basketball player. The award will honor the top male and female player in the country.
The list of women's finalists, which was pared down from an initial 30 player watch list, includes Sue Bird and Swin Cash of Connecticut, Stacey Dales of Oklahoma, Deanna Jackson of UAB, Sheila lambert of Baylor, Tamara Moore of Wisconsin, Michelle Snow of Tennessee, Angie Welle of Iowa State, Lindsey Yamasaki of Stanford and Moran.
The names of these finalist will appear on the official ballot during the nationall voting process in March. The selection of the first-ever men's and women's winner will be based on the cumulative ballots of the national media committee and Division I college basketball coaches. The winner will be announced during the respective NCAA Final Four events in March.
The first annual award recipients will then be honored at the Tribute Gala, a black- tie awards dinner held at the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City. The event, hosted by the Kansas City Club, is scheduled for Saturday, April 20.
