The Crimson and Gray led from the opening tip, but a late Buffalo rally made for some tense moments late in the contest.
A three-point basket by freshman Maura McBryan gave SJU a 16-point advantage, 61-45, with 6:29 left. UB, however, outscored the Hawks 14-4 over the next six minutes to trim the lead to just six with :48 seconds left. Apair of free throws by junior Erin Brady with :36 seconds remaining served to ice the game. Junior Elizabeth "Hootie" Mohan added a free throw in the final seconds to make the final margin 68-59.
St. Joe's never trailed in the contest and sprinted out to an 8-0 lead as Krasnoshiok and Stephanie Graff each connected on a pair of early baskets. Even a timeout by UB couldn't curb the Hawks hot-shooting, as SJU opened up a 16-point lead at the 13:19 mark, 20-4. The Bulls eventually battled back and the game went into the break with the Hawks up 33-22.
Buffalo crept within five points on two occasions in the early stages of the second half, but four straight three-pointers, including three by Mehmedic, pushed the lead back out to double-digits at 49-37.
