PHILADELPHIA (3/11/02) - Saint Joseph's University's
Susan Moran has been named to the 2001-02 WBCA/KODAK Women's Basketball All-District 1 Team. WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical districts vote for the team and Player of the Year. Each member of the all-district squad garners honorable mention All-America accolades and automatically becomes a finalist for the 2002 Division I Kodak Women's All-America Basketball Team. The Division I Kodak Women's All-America Basketball Team will be announced in San Antonio on March 28, 2002.
A senior forward, Moran was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, as well as a third team Academic All-American. In addition, she is a finalist for the inaugural Senior CLASS (National Senior Player of the Year) Award. The all-time leading scorer in SJU basketball history (2,293 points), she is the only player in school history to lead her team in both scoring and rebounding in four straight seasons. This season she ranks fourth nationally and led both the A-10 and Philadelphia Big Five circuits by averaging 23.2 points per game.
A starter in all 120 games of her career, earlier this season she set an Atlantic 10 record by being named the Conference's player of the week eight times. She was also named to the A-10 All-Conference first team for the second straight season and the league's all-Academic squad for the third year in a row.
Joining Moran on the District 1 team were Jacqueline Batteast of Notre Dame, Brianne Stepherson of Boston College and Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Diana Taurasi of Connecticut.
A two-time A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year selection, as well as a two-time Verizon Academic All-District 2 honoree, Moran will graduate in May with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing (3.67 G.P.A.). She was named to the Verizon Academic All-America Second Team in 2001.
