HAWKS FLY SOUTH FOR DUKE INVITATIONAL

DURHAM, NC (04/05/03) -- The Saint Joseph's men's track team continued its quest for an Atlantic 10 title this weekend at the prestigious Duke Invitational. Although there was no team scoring, the Hawks had an impressive showing in Durham. The meet was held at North Carolina Central University due to renovations to Duke's track. Senior Jerry Puryear was a winner in the 400m hurdles (52.87) and classmate Brian Rosetti finished fourth (third among collegians) in the 1500m with a time of 3:50.21. Both met IC4A standards, respectively. Puryear was also a member of the 4x400 relay that improved on its IC4A qualifying time with a time of 3:13.14. Joining Puryear in the relay was junior Nick Carras, junior Chris Koneski, and freshman Andrew Thomas. Sophomore Collin Martin placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:22.26. Thomas had a strong showing individually by placing 7th in the 400m dash (48.27). Freshman Andre Laboy ran a time of 15:05.59 in the 5000m, good for 7th as well. The 4x800 relay team also had a good showing, placing fifth and reaching IC4A standards. Carras placed 25th and 26th, respectively, in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Freshman Mike DiDio ran a time of 3:54.77 to earn 12th place in the 1500m. SJU competes Saturday at the Lou Onesty Invitational at Virginia.
