THREE HAWKS NAMED TO ATLANTIC 10 ACADEMIC TEAM

AMHERST, MA (5/12/04) - Saint Joseph's placed three softball players on the 2004 Atlantic 10 Academic team in voting conducted among the league's sports information directors. Senior Dana Travis and juniors Cara Deldeo and Megan Richardson were all honored for their performance on the diamond and in the classroom. Travis, a senior co-captain, earns the honor for the second time in her career. The four-year staff ace is the all-time strikeout leader at SJU with 502 and is tied for the career lead in shutouts (25). A native of Newark, Del., she also ranks in the top three in nine statistical categories on Hawk Hill, including wins, games, games started and complete games. This season, the righthander is 14-10 with a 2.52 ERA and has struck out 116 batters in 160 innings, all team highs. Travis sports a 3.52 grade point average as a marketing major. Deldeo, a junior from Dagsboro, Del. has been cited by the conference for the second straight year. Also a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2003, Deldeo has started every game of her career. The shortstop is currently batting .260 from the leadoff spot with a homerun and seven RBI. She is a career .310 hitter, including a team best .338 last season and her 135 hits place her 15th all-time on Hawk Hill. Deldeo has a 3.96 GPA as an interdisciplinary health services major. Richardson is a first-time honoree on the academic squad. She is currently batting .259 with a triple among her 38 hits. A starter in every game of her career, Richardson is a career .296 hitter, including a team-best .339 clip as a freshman. Her 25 stolen bases rank her fifth in Hawk history. The Bear, Del. Native has a 3.72 GPA as an interdisciplinary health services major. Saint Joseph's (19-27, 8-4 A-10), the third-seed, plays second-seeded Temple on Thursday in the Atlantic 10 Championships at the University of Massachusetts.
