2002 ITALIAN TOUR HAWK DAILY DIARY - DAY 6

SORRENTO (08/17/02) - Today is a game day, but the morning and afternoon are free. Many in the group took the time to go to the Isle of Capri, while others either relaxed at the hotel pool or took time to visit many of Sorrento's shops. In the late afternoon the team departed for the nearby town of Boscoreale, located at the base of Mount Vesuvius. A brief stop at the Boscoreale Museum preceeded the game, which tipped off at 7:00 PM. After posting an easy victory (106-54), the team was treated to dinner by the opposing club. **************************************************************** Dear families, friends and fans, After a four hour ride from Rome your Hawks arrived in Sorrento. This is a small but very beautiful city which is located on the Mediteranean Sea. Although we spent only one day here we have accomplished many things. We had the opportunity to visit the amazing Island of Capri or to stay in town and shop in the many little shops on the streets of Sorrento. While one group was enjoying the beauty of Capri, the other group was getting souvenirs for friends and family. Some of us also had time to go swimmingin the salty Mediteranean. Shortly after that the team gathered for a pregame meal. Once again we enjoyed mozarella cheese, pastas and pizzas. Soon we were in the bus heading to our first (foreign) game. For everyone on the team (beside Irina and I) this was a completely new experience. There is a slight difference between European and USAbasketball. The rules are slightly different and the game is more free and physical than in the U.S. It took us a few minutes to discover the strengths and weaknesses of the team we played. Pretty soon our opponent learned a lot about Hawk basketball. This was our first game since last season. Although we have a new team, we have the same dream and desire to win. We played defense, rebounded the ball and ran the floor. We playedour game and had alot of fun. We all played well and we won. After the game the opposing team took usout to dinner,so wemade somenew friends. I think the team is having a great time. This is a great learning experience, because we have the opportunity to experience another culture. For me this is like home, because I have been here several times before and am looking forward tocoming again. Go Europe! - Amra Mehmedic
