SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AT REBEL GAMES

KISSIMMEE, FL (03/10/03) - The Saint Joseph's softball team had a rough day at the Rebel Games on Monday, dropping two games to fall to 1-2 on the season. The Hawks lost the first game, 1-0 in nine innings, to Tennessee-Martin. The second game was not as close as Youngstown State hammered SJU, 7-0. In the Tennessee-Martin loss, sophomore Cara Deldeo was stellar on the mound, allowing seven hits, while striking out three. In the ninth, with runners at first and third, she made a mistake, throwing a strike while attempting an intentional walk. The UTM batter roped the pitch for a game-winning single. SJU's offense could only muster four singles in the contest, one each by Deldeo, Desiree McGhie, Jill Clementi and Robin Berry. In the nightcap, sophomore Kate Reisch made her debut on the mound for the Hawks, but it was not a memorable one for the Havertown, Pa. native. She allowed five earned runs over three innings. Junior Dana Travis finished the game, allowing two earned runs over three innings of work. Again the SJU offense was lacking, mustering just three singles, one each by Deldeo, Megan Richardson and Meghan Leaver. SJU will look to rebound on Tuesday against Yale and Butler.
