HAWKS COMPETE AT DUKE INVITATIONAL

DURHAM, NC (4/07/02) - The Saint Joseph's men's track team headed south to compete in the Duke Invitational. Despite the windy and chilly temperatures, the Hawks bested competitors from Villanova, South Carolina State, Campbell, Georgetown, Michigan and host, Duke. Senior Ben Koch along with sophomore Andy Craycraft, led the way for the SJU as they both placed fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:21.19) and 800 meter (1:52.0) respectively. Freshman newcomer Eric Chekemian also fared well in the 400 meter event placing 17th with a time a of 48.43 seconds. Bill Hoffman showed a strong effort in the 10,000-meter finished in a time of 31:32.62, good for third place. Other highlights for the Hawks included a fifth place finish for the 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:15.93. Next up for the Hawk men is the University of Virginia Invitational on Saturday, April 13. The 13th is also the birthdate of UVA founder Thomas Jefferson.
