Champs! Hawks Claim Wildcat Classic Title With 78-68 Win Over Kansas State

MANHATTAN, KS - Trailing by as many as 17, Saint Joseph's women's basketball team embodied the "Hawk Will Never Die" motto as the Hawks fought back to claim to 11th Annual Wildcat Classic title with a 78-68 win over host Kansas State Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum. The Hawks remain perfect on the season with the win, moving to 6-0 for the second best start in porgram history.

Behind a game-high 20 points from tournament MVP Ayahna Cornish, Saint Joseph's out scored the Wildcats 46-24 in the second half after trailing by 12, 44-32, at halftime.

Senior forward Faith Schutte earned All-Tournament honors with a career-high 18 points to go with six rebounds.

Saint Joseph's biggest deficit was 53-36 early in the second half (15:46 to play), Cornish keyed a 13-0 spurt by the Hawks for the comeback. Over the last 7:48, SJU outscored Kansas State, 23-7, led by eight points from Schutte.

It marked only the sixth time in the last five years that Kansas State lost on its homecourt. It was also just third time in the 11-year history of the Wildcat Classic that Kansas State did not win its own tournament.
