Speedy Staten Sparks SJU Men at Rider/Lafayette Invite

NEW YORK - Freshman Bobby Staten reached IC4A qualifying standards, as did senior Doug Rick and junior Andrew Thomas, to highlights a successful weekend for the Saint Joseph's men's track team at the Rider/Lafayette Invitational held at the Armory.

Staten placed second in the 55m Dash with an Atlantic 10 season-best and IC4A qualifying time of 6.44. He also won the 200m Dash. His time of 22.29 was the third fastest in the A-10 and narrowly missed IC4A standards.

Rick won the 400m and continued to reach IC4A requirements with a time of 49.43, while Thomas finished second in the 500m. His time was also the fastest in the A-10 this season and met IC4A standards.

Individually, SJU also received solid finishes from Teddy Myers, who placed sixth in the mile, despite a fall, in a time of 4:29.08. Chris Alexander was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 20-6. Matt McClure placed feventh in the shot put with a toss of 38-10.

The Hawks 4x800 Relay of Chris Kessler, Myers, Rich Ryan and Robbie Meyer placed fifth (8:08.06) and the 4x400 was sixth (3:30.01).
