Junior Mike DiDio turned in a dazzling performance winning both the 1000 and the mile to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track team to a third place finish at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships at Mackal Fieldhouse.
DiDio bested the field in the 1000m with a time 2:29.04. Earlier in the day he won the mile with a time of 4:13.24. His teammate Joe Mohn also scored in that event placing sixth (4:21.57).
Besides DiDio,SJU had several individuals and relay place second overall. Junior Andrew Thomas (48.74) was second in the 400, classmate Andre Laboy(8:32.41) also ran second in 3000. At 5000m, senior Collin Martin (14:34.99) placed second and freshman Will Rowland (15:00.62) opened eyes with a fourth place effort.
SJU's 4x400 relay team of senior Doug Rick, Thomas,DiDiO and Matt Petrocci was edged by just 4/100 of a second for first in the 4x400 with a time of 7:53.61. The Hawks were also second in the DMR in a time of 10:25.99.
Other key performancesweredelivered by Rick (1:05.00) who was third in the 500m, freshman Bobby Staten (6.46) placed fifth in the 55m, and Petrocci (1:57.38) and Chris Kessler(1:57.77) ran fourth and fifth in the 800m.
Rhode Island amassed 200 points in winning its fourth A-10 title in the past five seasons while La Salle finished second with 143 points. The Explorers were led by freshman Sean Quigley, who established an A-10 Championship record in the 5,000m with a winning time of 14:32.75 en route to being named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.
Fordham and Saint Joseph's tied for third place with 94 points apiece, followed by Massachusetts (93), Richmond (57), Temple (50) and Xavier (7). Fordham's third-place showing marked its highest in program history.
