The Saint Joseph's men's track team delivered impressive results over the weekend with several runners, including seniors Doug Rick and Collin Martin, along with junior Andrew Thomas, delivering Atlantic 10 season-best times and meeting IC4A qualifying standards at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
Rick placed second in the 500m with a time of 1:04.26 to meet IC4A standards. His time bettered his own season best and was the fastest in the A-10 this year. Andrew Vandegrift also raced in the 400 finishing second in his heat and 21st overall in a time of 1:07.58.
Martin and Thomas also turned in A-10 season-best and IC4A qualifying times in the 3000 and 400, respectively.
Martin placed 10th overall in the 3000 in a time of 8:27.41. He was followed closely by teammates freshman Will Rowland and (8:35.85) and Teddy Myers (8:37.56). Rowland won his heat and finished 16th overall, while Myers placed 19th.
In the 400, Thomas placed second in his heat and 23rd overall, but still posted the best time in the conference this season and met IC4A standards with a time of 48.23. Joe Witiw (51.40) also competed int he event.
Other strong performances were turned in by Mike DiDio and Joe Mohn in the mile. DiDio placed ninth in a time of 4:14.66 in the "big school" mile, while Mohn finished eighth in the college mile in a time of 4:15.13.
At 5000m, junior Andre Laboy placed third with a strong showing of 14:53.74.
In the relays, SJU's 4x400 captured its heat and placed fourth in a time of 3:20.66. The 4x800, meanwhile placed fifth (8:04.02). The Hawks ran eighth in the Distance Medley Relay (10:21.95).
In the sprints, freshman Bobby Staten was third in both his 60m Dash (6.95) and 200m (22.60) heats.
Also racing for SJU, Matt Petrocci ran 1:56.19 in the 800m.
