The Saint Joseph's men's track team made its debut on the outdoor oval with a solid performance at Franklin Field in the Quaker Invitational. Senior Doug Rick and sophomore Joe Witiw delivered individual event victories in the 400 and long jump respectively.
Rick (48.16) led a one-two finish for the Hawks in the 400M. The Hawk senior captured the event by more than a second over teammate Matt Petrocci (49.94). Andrew Vandegrift placed tenth in the event and Matt Weaver also competed.
Witiw (20-9) and teammate Chris Alexander also placed first and second in the long jump. Alexander turned in a jump of 20-3.75.
Four Hawks raced in the 800m with junior Andrew Thomas finishing second in a time of 1:54.44. Witiw was seventh (1:58.55).
Alexander also ran a leg of the 4x400 realy and helped SJU to a second place finish in a time of 3:21.60. Vandegrift, Weaver and Chris Kessler also joined the Relay contingent.
In the 1500M sophomore Teddy Meyers was the first of three Hawks to cross the finish line and placed fifth in a time 3:58.64.
The Hawks also enterd several athletes in the throws with James Finore taking eighth in the shot, Matt McClure finishing eighth in the discus.
