The Saint Joseph's softball dropped its doubleheader at Villanova Thursday afternoon, falling 5-0 in the opener and 2-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and tacked on three more runs in the next two innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Offensively, the Hawks couldn't do much, collecting only two hits in the loss.
On the mound, sophomore Lauren Hughes three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out one. She falls to 3-8 on the season with the loss.
In the nightcap, fans saw a pitchers dual into the middle innings.
Saint Joseph's Lauren Cognigni was stellar, allowing zero runs over the opening three innings, while the Hawks bats remained silent, collecting only one hit.
Unfortunatley for the Hawks, the Wildcats tallied a run in the fourth and fifth.
Cognigni, who struck out four over six innings, falls to 5-6 on the season.
With the losses, Saint Joseph's falls to 8-15 on the season, while Villanova improves to 22-14.
The Hawks will return to action this Saturday with a doubleheader at Manhattan.
