The Saint Joseph's softball team split a doubleheader with Manhattan Saturday afternoon, falling 8-2 in the opener and winning 2-0 behind a one-hitter by freshman hurler Lauren Cognigni.
In the nightcap, Cognigni was solid for the Hawks, not allowing a hit until the sixth inning. The freshman allowed only three base runners, while striking out nine. Cognigni improved to 6-6 on the season with the win.
At the plate, Saint Joseph's tallied a run in the third and in the fifth as Katie McCann scored on an error in the third and Jill Clementio drilled a solo home run in the fifth.
In the opener, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Clementi and McCann scored on Manhattan errors.
Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, Manhattan touched up sophomore pitcher Lauren Hughes for eight runs, five of which were earned, to pull away with an 8-2 win.
Hughes falls to 3-9 on the season, while striking out eight.
With the split, the Hawks move to 9-15 on the season, as Manhattan moves to 10-12.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Drexel for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
