A trio of Saint Joseph's softball student-athletes were honored Wednesday night at the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship banquet. Junior second baseman Jill Clementi was named to the A-10 All-Conference team, while seniors Cara Deldeo and Megan Richardson earned spots on the A-10 All-Academic Team.
Clementi enters tomorrow conference tournament batting .296 with a team-best 23 runs and 24 RBIs to go with four home runs. A member of the 2003 A-10 All-Championship team, Clementi has been a rock for the Hawks at second, starting 123 games in just three seasons. On May 1 versus St. Bonaventure, Clementi became the 22nd Hawk to join the 100-hit club.
Twice being named to the A-10 All-Academic team the past two season, Deldeo makes her third-straight appearance this season. A interdisciplinary health services major, Deldeo boasts a 3.96 grade-point average. While stellar in the classroom, Deldeo has provided consistency for the Hawks at shortstop over her four seasons. A career .301 batter, Deldeo ranks fourth all-time in program history with 107 runs and sixth in hits at 170. A two-time Academic All-District member, Deldeo leads Saint Joseph's with six home runs this season.
Also making a return trip to the All-Academic Team is senior centerfielder Megan Richardson. A 2004 A-10 All-Academic selection, Richardson has will graduate this Saturday with a 3.75 GPA in interdisciplinary health services. On the season, Richardson leads the Hawks in hits (43) and triples (one), and ranks second on the team in batting average at .297. Named A-10 Player of the Week for April 4, Richardson is a two-time Academic All-District First Team selection.
The trio will try to earn on final award, an A-10 title, when Saint Joseph's begins play Thursday versus Massachusetts at 2 p.m.
